Sandra "Cindy" Lee Loughman

Sandra “Cindy” Lee Loughman, age 83, of Albia, IA, passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia. Cindy was born on July 28, 1941, in Mankato, MN, to Claire and Margaret (Alexander) Bobzien. She grew up attending school and graduated from high school in Omaha, NE. She later attended Indian Hill Community College where she obtained a degree in Business. On June 13, 1964, she was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Loughman in Omaha. Cindy and Bob had 3 children, Sherrie, Jeff, and Tim. Cindy and Bob were blessed with 60 years of marriage prior to her passing. Cindy was an award-winning journalist with her column “In the Soup” running in the Albia newspaper as well as the Des Moines Register and Chicago and Omaha papers. She and her husband, Bob, ran the A & W Restaurant in Albia for 28 years. They also owned and operated Neva’s Noodles for 27 years. Cindy enjoyed traveling and was a food historian. She and Janet Jenkins studied under James Beard. She was a judge at the Iowa State Fair for many years and was called upon by Living History Farms to authenticate historical foods. Cindy enjoyed crafts and painting. She was extremely talented with quilting, was a member of the Crazy Quilters Guild, and won numerous awards over the years. She was an excellent cook, known for her apple pie, among many other things. Cindy enjoyed spending time with her friends. Her family was everything to her and she cherished all the time spent with them. Cindy is survived by her husband, Bob; 3 children, Sherrie Loughman-Begnell, Jeff (Jean) Loughman, and Tim Loughman; 10 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren. Cindy is also survived by several good friends. Cindy is preceded in death by her parents, Claire and Margaret Bobzien and 2 brothers, Steve and Lowell. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor John Sowers officiating. Visitation will be held following the service from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Cindy’s family present to greet family and friends.
