William "Bill" Flahive

William "Bill" Flahive, age 82 of Albia, passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2014, at Monroe Care Center in Albia surrounded by a multitude of loved ones Bill was born June 5, 1932, to William and Mary (Bingaman) Flahive in Weller. Bill and his family moved to Lovilia, Iowa in 1943. He graduated from the Lovilia High School with the class of 1951. In March of 1957 he was united in marriage to Janette Tucker and to this union 3 children were born, Cindy, Bill, and Donna. After high school he began working for Maytag in Newton. Later he went to work for John Morrell Co. for 22 years until Morrell's closing in 1973. Bill then went to work for Joe Lynch at the Conoco station. He later became the owner and the name was changed to B & J Tire Shop. Bill was a loving husband and father. He was well known for his jokes, the good times at the Tire Shop where many gathered to eat beans and cornbread and share jokes and friendship. Bill loved the Lord and was very faithful to his religion. He truly enjoyed being with his family and going to his Grandchildren's sporting events through the years. Bill is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janette Flahive; his children, Cindy (Steve) Angran, Bill (Lisa) Flahive, and Donna Flahive all of Albia; four grandchildren, Amy (Garritt) Venema of Wisconsin, Kyle Angran, Aaron Flahive, and Ian Flahive, all of Albia; two great-grandchildren, Kennedi Angran and Millee Flahive; seven sisters, Mary Theresa Grimes of Knoxville, Geraldine Grimes of Albia, Marjorie (Edward) Martin of Cave Creek, AZ, Florence (Donald) Welch of Winterset, Catherine (Jack) Thomas of San Marcos, CA, Jo Ann (Sam) Derby of Atlantic, Delores Littlejohn of West Des Moines, a brother, Jim (Diane) Flahive of Albia, a brother-in-law Don Shelford of Lovilia, a sister-in-law, Beverly Sampson of Alexandria, Virginia, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Mary Flahive, two brothers Edward and John Flahive, and two sisters Madeline Stanley and Bernice Flattery. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 10, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia, with Father Michael E. Volkmer, C.PP.S. Officiating. Burial will follow services at St. Mary's Cemetery in Albia. Visitation will be held from11 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday, November 9, 2014 at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Bill's family present throughout the day and evening. A 4:00 p.m. rosary will be led by the Altar and Rosary society and a wake service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Welcome Home Soldier Memorial or St. Mary's Cemetery.
