Peggy Sue Pettyjohn

Peggy Sue Pettyjohn, age 67, of Bussey, IA, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2025, at her home. Peggy was born on February 5, 1958, at the Albia Hospital to Norman “Squeak” and Patricia “Marty” (Bregar) Kendall. She grew up attending Twin Cedars schools. She was united in marriage to Mike Keegel and to this union, 2 children, Heather and Terry, were born. Peggy and Mike later divorced. Peggy then married Roger Pettyjohn in Bussey. Peggy did concrete work before working in housekeeping and at the front desk for hotels for many years. She later worked as a cook at the North End Tap in Lovilia. Peggy loved being outdoors, flower and vegetable gardening, fishing, rock hunting, mushroom hunting, and picking berries. She was very talented and enjoyed crafts of all sorts, such as making dream catchers, bead works, embroidery, and crocheting. She enjoyed listening to music and attending concerts, especially Elton John, Pink, and Nickelback. Peggy was an excellent cook and baker, known for her cinnamon rolls, chocolate chip cookies, no bake cookies, chicken stir-fry, cheeseburger and broccoli and cheese soups, homemade ice cream, and homemade candies, such as peanut brittle. Peggy also enjoyed playing card games, Yahtzee, Pennies, and Wahoo. Peggy’s true joy in life was spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and attending their sporting events. Peggy is survived by her husband, Roger Pettyjohn; her children, Heather (Mike) Peterson, Terry Keegel, and Dustin Parker; her mother, Marty Kendall; an ex daughter-in-law, Dawn Parker; 9 grandchildren, Caden Goemaat, Steven Keegel, Aaron Keegel, Seth Keegel, Abaygael Keegel, Ella Maddix, Emma Maddix, River Keegel, and Hunter Parker; several step grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren, Kasen and Oakley Keegel; 2 siblings, Dean Kendall and Lisa Selby; and her good friends, Chasity Roberts, and Deb Gaffey. Peggy is also survived by a special niece, Kim (Corey) DeBrouse and several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and other friends. She is preceded in death by her father, Squeak Kendall; a sister, Kay (Donnie) Tucker; a brother, Kenny Kendall; a sister-in-law, Cindy Kendall; a brother-in-law, Richard Selby; and 2 nephews in infancy, Chad and Nick Kendall. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Peggy’s family present from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. to greet family and friends. Per Peggy’s wishes, her body will cremated following visitation and a private family burial will be held at a later date. A Celebration of Peggy’s Life will be held starting at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at the North End Tap in Lovilia. An open memorial has been established to the family.
