Mary Ann Allspach

Mary Ann Allspach, age 72, of Newton, IA, formerly of Melrose, IA, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Park Centre in Newton, IA. Mary Ann was born on March 3, 1954, in Newton, IA, to Francis and Marlys (Harr) Moore. She grew up in Newton and graduated with the Newton High School Class of 1973. Mary Ann was blessed with one son, Jeremy, whom she lovingly raised with the help of her parents until she was united in marriage to Marvin “Henry” Allspach Jr. on September 3, 1994. Mary Ann and Henry shared 24 years of marriage prior to Henry’s passing on September 13, 2018. Mary Ann was a dedicated and hard-working woman throughout her life. She worked at Nelson Manor in Newton before beginning her career at Maytag, where she worked in the rubber room and in the sheet metal department until her retirement. In her younger years, Mary Ann enjoyed bowling and spending time outdoors, especially fishing. She loved to go dancing at places such as the VFW and Moose Lodge. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo and looked forward to taking casino trips with her friends. She also enjoyed golf cart rides and spending time at the lake house at Lake Rathbun. Above all, Mary Ann loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a gift for making people smile. A stroke survivor of 30 years, she was an inspiration to others and faced each day with remarkable strength and positivity. Mary Ann is survived by her son, Jeremy (Jennifer) Sumpter of Newton; her grandchildren, Hailey, Carson, and Ava Sumpter; a brother, Mark (Sherry) Moore of Washington; a sister, Marsha (Ron) Moskwa of Arizona; 2 sisters-in-law, Karla (Mike) Aldridge of Newton and Anita Layer of Newton; and 2 brothers-in-law, Gary Allspach of Newton and Stanley (Patty) Allspach of Melrose. Mary Ann is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Allspach; her parents, Francis and Marlys Moore; a brother-in-law, Marvin Moskwa; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Mary Allspach; sister-in-law, Harriet Allspach; her father-in-law, Marvin Allspach Sr.; her mother-in-law, Thelma Allspach; her grandparents; and many aunts and uncles. Per Mary Ann’s wishes, her body has been cremated and private family burial will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Melrose, IA. A Celebration of Mary Ann’s life will be held from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the Green Acres Community Building- 5261 Apache Trail, Melrose, IA 52569. Mary Ann’s son would like to give a special thank you to Patty Allspach and Tracy Heaberlin for their many years of support and assistance. He also extends heartfelt appreciation to all of the caregivers at hospitals and care facilities who cared for Mary Ann with compassion. An open memorial has been established to the family to be determined at a later date.
