Marjorie Nucko

Marjorie Nucko, age 93 of Albia, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2015, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia. Marjorie was born June 11, 1921, to Rodney and Hazel (Lee) Phillips in Hamilton, IA. She attended and graduated from Hamilton High School. Marjorie married Joseph George Nucko on February 22, 1941, in Unionville, MO. They were blessed with 72 years of marriage before Joe's passing on August 8, 2013. To this union five children were born, Pat, Joe, Sharon, Eleanor, and Barb. Joe and Marjorie moved to Des Moines, where she worked at a meat packing plant. Later they moved to Albia and she worked at Smith's Laundry before becoming a homemaker for her family. After retiring Marjorie and Joe spent 22 years wintering in Apache Junction, Arizona. Marjorie was a talented basketball player in high school. She enjoyed playing cards, especially rummy and golf, collecting bells, and flower gardening. She was a great cook. Her real joy in life was spending time with her family and friends. She was not only a mother, a grandmother, and a great-grandmother, but she was also a best friend. Marjorie is survived by her five children, Pat (Joe) Angran of Albia, Joe Nucko of Albia, Sharon (Phil) Boehnke of Garner, IA, Eleanor (Richard Hatfield) Hugen of Albia, and Barb (Kenny) Lovstuen of Albia; 16 grandchildren, Steve (Cindy), John (Lori), Jim, Debbie (Jerry), Rhonda, Dave (Kathy), Zane, Jeff, Theresa, Amy (Eric), David (Melanie), Mark (Joleen), Kim, Doug (Christy), Jenny (Jim), Brenda (Tim), and Heather (Dayle); 37 great grandchildren; 22 great-great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Carol Richmond of Lovilia, and Wilma Clubb of Liberty, Missouri; 2 sister-in-laws, Evelyn Murphy of Albia, and Eleanor Harris of Albia, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe Nucko, a son-in-law, Frank Hugen; and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Nucko. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 7, 2015, at Church of the Nazarene in Moravia; with Pastor Terry Chapman officiating. A funeral luncheon will follow services at the church, and burial will be 3:30 p.m. in Oakview Cemetery in Albia. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Marjorie's family present from 6-8 p.m. An open memorial has been established in Marjorie's family's name.
