Marilyn Mae Larson

Marilyn Mae Larson, age 77, of Albia, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2017 at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia under the care of HCI Hospice. Marilyn was born on June 4, 1940 to Raymond and Anna Marie (Kemp) Fuller in Muscatine, Iowa. She graduated from the Davenport High Class of 1958. On August 29, 1959 she was united in marriage to Steven Larson at Grace Lutheran Church in Davenport, Iowa. To this union four children were born, Kirk, Anita, Wendy, and Sandra. Together Marilyn and Steve shared 58 years of marriage. Marilyn worked for the Davenport Bank and Trust in Davenport, Iowa. In 1971 they moved to Albia and she began working for John Schleier Insurance before the company sold and became Johnson Insurance. The company again sold and was changed to Summers Insurance where she worked for several years until retiring. She was very involved in the Monroe County Historical Museum where she served as the secretary. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Albia, the Women’s Club and was a very active member of Chapter H P.E.O. She enjoyed collecting dolls, being outdoors, golfing, watching her grandchildren’s track meets, football games, softball games and other sporting events. Her real joy in life was spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. Marilyn is survived by her husband, Steve Larson of Albia; her children, Kirk (Deborah) Larson of Lake Ozark, MO, Anita (Terry) Simmons of Albia, Wendy (Chris) Gabler of Minnetonka, MN; and Sandra (Roger) Travis of Frisco TX; 11 grandchildren, Kyle (Rachel), Tyler (Kelly), Jesse, Cody, Ashley (Jared), Zach, Nick, Abby, Alex, Brenna and Kaelan; two great grandchildren, Kelsey and Sawyer and another on the way; a brother-in-law, Ken Larson and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Anna Marie and a sister, Patricia. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 7, 2017, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Albia, with Pastor Nancy Reed officiating. Burial will follow the service at Oak View Cemetery in Albia. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 6, 2017, at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with Marilyn’s family present from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. to greet family and friends. Visitation will re-open at the church at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday until the time of service. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or the Monroe County Historical Museum.
