Lori Renee Rote

Lori Renee Rote, age 61, of Oskaloosa, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at her home. Lori was born on February 14, 1961, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia to David Cecil and Judy (Self) Hunt. She grew up attending school and graduated from the Albia High School with the class of 1979. She then attended Indian Hills Community college in Ottumwa where she studied Culinary Arts. On December 31, 1982, she was united in marriage to Paul Daniel Smith who preceded her in death on December 13, 1990. Lori married Richard Alan Rote on November 27, 1992, and to this union, a daughter, Brittany, was born. Lori and Richard shared 22 years of marriage prior to Richard’s passing on December 9, 2014. Lori had her CDL and drove a semi for a period of time before going to work at Monroe Plastics in Albia. She then worked at a restaurant with her mom in Green City, Missouri. She later took care of elderly people in their homes. Lori was an excellent cook who was known for her Christmas candies and cinnamon rolls that she surprised her family members with on Christmas morning. She was an avid Nascar fan with Kasey Kahne being her favorite driver. She was also a huge fan of 70’s and 80’s rock bands, especially AC/DC, Stix, and REO Speedwagon, and was always up for attending their concerts. She enjoyed taking walks and had a love for dogs, especially her dogs Trouble and Tara. Lori loved being a mother and cherished all of the time she spent with her family and friends. Lori is survived by her children, Richard (Shannon) Rote, Nicholas Rote, Ryan (Jessica) Rote, and Brittany (Sean Abbott) Beals; 11 grandchildren, Scott, Kyle, Taylor, Sydney, Alexis, Alaina, Mddison, Kacie, Cody, William and Ava; 5 great grandchildren; siblings, Kevin (Alicia) Hunt, Brian (Maureen) Hunt, Brad (Tammy) Hunt, and Mindy (James) Ford; stepsisters, Connie and Paula Repp and Elsie Foster; and her special friend, Carlleen Adams. Lori is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Danny Smith and Richard Rote; her parents, David and Judy Hunt; and 2 step sisters, Doris Keys and Carolyn Repp. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 12, 2022, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Lori’s family present from 4:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m. to greet family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Minister Jeffrey Dalrymple officiating. Per Lori’s wishes, her body will be cremated following services and a private family burial will be held at a later date. An open memorial has been established to the family.
