Kenneth Clair Calhoun

Kenneth Clair Calhoun Kenneth Clair Calhoun, age 91, of rural Albia, died Tuesday June 23, 2009, in his residence at the Benton Place Apartments in Albia, Iowa. Kenneth was born on October 20, 1917 to Carl Harrison and Madge Viola (Shehan) Calhoun at his home place in Franklin Township, Monroe County, Iowa. Kenneth attended rural schools and graduated from Albia High School class 1936. Kenneth gave his life to Christ when he was 12 years old at Iconium Methodist Church. Since then Christ had been his guide, strength, and protector all of his life. In 1995 he transferred his church membership from the Iconium Methodist Church to the Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia. Kenneth liked to make friends with all the people he met, and used his life to serve people. He always tried to keep a happy attitude and laugh a lot. He thought of himself as somebody that was blessed with a good memory. He loved to hunt, fish, trap, and raise truck crops. He enjoyed collecting stamps, coins, rocks, and Indian relics. Kenneth was a loving family man. He looked after his Brother Donald's needs until his death in 2001. He lived on the home place for 77 years before moving to Benton Place Apartments in 1995 Kenneth was an active member of his church. He served as the Iconium Church Treasurer, Lay Leader Trustee, Parish Council, Wesleyan Adjustor, and teacher. Kenneth was also a farmer. He raised corn, soybeans, wheat, and oats. He also raised livestock cattle, hogs, sheep, and he kept bees for most of his life. He was also a 4-H leader for five years. Kenneth had done carpeting, painting, and roofing during his life. Kenneth wrote down some of his memories from his life from the 1920's through 2001, and had them published into a book titled Dawn to Dusk, Published by Ron Calhoun. Kenneth is survived by his brother-in-law Marion Allen of Chariton; 2 sister-in-laws Thelma Hoover of Albia and Erma Calhoun of McPherson, KS; Kenneth is also survived by lots of nieces and nephews, also great and great-great nieces and nephews. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Madge; one sister Grace Allen 4 brothers, James, Virgil, Delbert, and Donald. A memorial has been established to the Trinity United Methodist Church of Albia, IA.
