Judith "Judy" Ann Hackett

Judith “Judy” Ann Hackett, age 80, of Albia, IA, passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at Oakwood Specialty Care in Albia. Judy was born on December 27, 1944, at home in Albia to Earl and Zelma (Bowman) Chapman. She grew up attending school in Albia. On March 15, 1962, she was united in marriage to James Hackett at the First Christian Church in Albia and to this union, 3 sons, Jeff, Joel, and Jeremy, were born. Judy and Jim were blessed with 63 years of marriage prior to her passing. Judy was a devoted employee at the Albia Animal Clinic for 30 years, where her love for animals shined. She especially loved white faced cows and her beloved cats and dogs- Pepper, Mikey, and Chips, to name a few. She later shared her cooking talents at Mom’s Place and the Homestead in Albia. A woman of strong faith, Judy was a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Albia. She was an excellent cook, known for her cookies and fudge, and enjoyed decorating cakes for family and friends. In her free time, Judy enjoyed reading, especially Danielle Steele books and Star magazine. She also enjoyed collecting Terry Ridlen art, snowmen, and lighthouses. Above all else, Judy treasured time spent with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed watching her children’s sporting events and loved playing Bingo and Skip-Bo as well as putting puzzles together. Judy is survived by her husband, Jim; 3 sons, Jeff (Evelyn), Joel (Jolene), and Jeremy (Mandy) Hackett; 12 grandchildren, Jessica (Nick) Kendall, Tyson Hackett, Kassandra (Justin) Vogeler, Cody (Robyn) Hackett, Cory (Melissa) Hackett, Nicholas (Katie) Hackett, Sharla Johnson, Aaron (Cede) Hackett, Abigail Moorman, Alex Hackett, Anna Hackett, and Avry Hackett; 22 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Eleanor Hackett, Carol McDaniel, and Lorraine (Gary) Cooper; and her lifelong best friend, Becky DeTar. Judy is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends. Judy is preceded in death by her father, Earl Chapman; her mother and stepfather, Zelma and Melvin Pilkerton; and 2 sisters, Evelyn Ramey and Janice Teno. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Judy’s family present from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.to greet family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 14, 2025, at the First Christian Church in Albia, with Pastor John Sowers officiating. A private family burial will take place at Oak View Cemetery in Albia at a later date. Memorials have been established to the Welcome Home Soldier monument and Oakwood Specialty Care in Albia.
