Janice Arlene Jourdan

Janice Arlene (Ninny) Jourdan, age 78, of Albia, IA, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Oakwood Specialty Care in Albia. Janice was born on March 31, 1946, in Albia, IA, to Bernie and Laura (Husted) See. Janice grew up attending Albia Schools, graduating in 1964. On May 6, 1968, she married Richard Jourdan in Las Vegas, NV. To this union, 4 children, Stephen, Rick, Valerie, and Eric, were born. Janice and Richard shared nearly 57 years of marriage prior to her passing. Janice worked at Hawkeye Molding in Albia, starting in 1991 and retiring in 2011. After retiring, Janice bartended at Pour Richards, the bar that she and Richard owned. Janice was an excellent bowler and enjoyed participating in bowling leagues on Sunday and Monday nights. She also enjoyed playing cards, especially Pitch. Janice’s family was everything to her and she cherished all the time spent with them, especially her grandchildren, who affectionately called her Ninny. Janice was also known as Pie Pie by her family. Janice is survived by her husband, Richard; her children, Steve (Lara) Jourdan, Rick Jourdan, Valerie (John) Smithberg, and Eric Jourdan; a sister, Tina Shaffer; 17 grandchildren, Amanda (Joe), Dylan, Cameron, Wyatt, Jessica (Tony), Austin (Olivia), Ricky, Connor, Cali (Christen), Brooklynn, Riana, Violet, Dahlia, Chett, Kirsten and Kourtney; 8 great grandchildren, Chandler, Aria, Addison, Bobby, Billy, Henry, Charlotte, and Raya; and a stepson, Russel Andrews. Janice is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends. Janice is preceded in death by her parents, Bernie and Laura See; 3 sisters, Phyllis Rosenboom, Elizabeth Culbertson, and Kathy Maupin; 4 brothers, Jim See, Roy See, Brad See, and Roger See; a grandson, Justin Smithberg; and her beloved, Toby. A Celebration of Life visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Janice’s family present to greet family and friends. A luncheon will be held at the Albia Eagles following visitation. Per Janice’s wishes, her body has been cremated and a private family burial will be held at a later date. An open memorial has been established and will be determined at a later date.
