James "Jim" Wilbur Mullinix

James “Jim” Wilbur Mullinix, age 84, of Albia, IA, passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at Monroe Care Center in Albia. Jim was born on August 14, 1938, in Hiteman, IA, to James and Alice (Kent) Mullinix. He grew up attending school in Albia. On June 6, 1959, he was united in marriage to Rosalie Faye Sweeden at the First Christian Church in Albia and to this union, 3 sons were born, Don, Bob and Larry. Jim and Rosalie were blessed with nearly 61 years of marriage prior to Rosalie’s passing on May 15, 2020. Jim worked in bridge construction in his younger years and was very proud of the bridges he assisted building over the Missouri River and around the area. He then went to work for the telephone company in Albia for 22 years where he was a lineman and a technician. Jim was very talented in many areas and upon retiring, he began doing handyman work of all sorts from winterizing trailers to painting. Jim was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed arrowhead hunting, hunting, and fishing with his buddy, Cecil Samuels. He was a very generous man and often cleaned the fish they caught and gave them away. He also enjoyed his 2 large gardens. He was a talented woodworker, carving many gnomes and building birdfeeders. He also enjoyed painting landscape scenes. Jim and Rosalie donated their time to cleaning up pioneer cemeteries in Monroe County. Above all else, Jim’s true joy in life was spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He loved to entertain them with his creative ideas, such as a treasure map for them to follow and find the treasure. Jim is survived by a son, Don (Karen) Mullinix; 4 grandchildren, Scott Mullinix, Mitchel (Elisa) Mullinix, Amanda (Cody) Keirns, and Beth (Aaron) Weideman; a sister, Wanna Shaw; a brother, Ralph (Priscilla) Mullinix; and two sisters-in-law, Wanda Fenton and Dorothy Sweeden. Jim is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie; 2 sons, Bob and Larry Mullinix; his parents, James and Alice; a brother, Jean Mullinix; and 3 sisters, Carol Gardner, Laura Mullinix, and Louise Kosmach. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Jim’s family present to greet family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with Pastor Richard Grimes officiating. Burial will follow services at Oak View Cemetery in Albia. An open memorial has been established to the family.
