James "Jamie" Estil Bishop

James “Jamie” Estil Bishop, age 54, of Oskaloosa, IA, formerly of Albia, IA, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones, at his home under the care of Mahaska Health Hospice. Jamie was born on January 20, 1972, in St. Charles, IL, the son of Janice Bishop. He grew up in Albia and graduated from the Albia High School with the Class of 1990. In July of 2005, Jamie was united in marriage to Megan Lalli in Las Vegas and to this union, 2 sons were born, Ethan and Seth. Jamie and Megan later divorced, although remained friends. Post graduation, Jamie pursued a career in construction. He started out helping Rick Judge with siding for many years before working for Reily Construction. In addition to his construction work, Jamie also served as an in-home health care aide and most recently worked for Scanlon Concrete. Jamie enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, hunting and playing horseshoes. He was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Cubs fan. Jamie had a great sense of humor, always had a smile on his face, and never knew a stranger. He enjoyed attending family gatherings and playing board games, where his competitive nature often shined through. He also enjoyed playing pool and spending time with his beloved dog, Lola. Above all else, Jamie’s greatest joy was his sons, whom he loved dearly, and treasured the time spent with them. Jamie is survived by 2 sons, Ethan and Seth Bishop; his mother, Janice (Kevin) Monroe; a sister, Jodeann (Tim) Cooley; a nephew, Gavin (Erica McReynolds) McMurray; a niece, Kennedy Cooley; and a special cousin that was like a sister, Kerrie (Matt) Archibald. Jamie is also survived by several other cousins, aunts, uncles and good friends. He is preceded in death by his grandparents; Jim and Lois Chidester; 2 uncles, Denny Chidester and Jerry Chidester; and 2 aunts, Judy Lundstrom and Carolyn Chidester . Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2026, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Jamie’s family present to greet family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2026, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor John Sowers officiating. Burial will follow services at Oak View Cemetery in Albia. A memorial has been established to the family.
