Gabriel Jonathon Clarkson

Gabriel Jonathon Clarkson, age 20, of Ottumwa, passed away Sunday, December 27th, 2020, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa as a result of heart failure. Gabriel was born on March 21, 2000, to Jonathon Clarkson and Deanna (Kendrick) Conley at Broadlawns Hospital in Des Moines, IA. Gabriel grew up in Ottumwa and Eldon Iowa earning his High School Diploma from Cardinal High School in 2018 where he shined for the Comets in his favorite sports and pastime of playing basketball as well as cross country, track, football and archery. He was a member of the FFA and really enjoyed Ag Day at school. Gabriel was employed at several positions, he enjoyed working at Stam’s Chocolates with his father and with his Uncle Jay at Tom’s Tree Service, Richard Keasling with Keasling Concrete in Eldon, mowing lawns, odd jobs and working on things. Gabriel was a great athlete, passionate about Marvel movies, and had many gifts including a soft touch with animals, children, and an advocate for persons with autism due to his special bond with his little brother Matthew Jr. Gabriel enjoyed a good basketball scrimmage with his family and friends, played in a few tournaments with his dad in 2019 and going to his cousin Micah games at Augustana College in Rock Island, IL. Other interests and hobbies included online gaming, bowling, playing cards, a game of pool, and above all else, Gabriel loved spending time with his family and friends. Gabriel is survived by his father, Jonathon (Kimberly) Clarkson of Des Moines, IA; his mother, Deanna (Leon Courtney) Conley of Ottumwa, IA ; 4 siblings, Alex Williams, Matthew Conley Jr., Marlie Conley, and Landon Conley; 4 step-siblings, Tad Hoover, Brittany Young Smith, Courtney Young, and Jarred Hoover; and his grandparents, Linda Downs, Kathy “Big Mama” Kendrick, and Kathleen Clarkson. Gabriel will also be dearly missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and good friends. He is preceded in death by his grandfathers, David Kendrick Sr. and Charles Clarkson; and a cousin, Jonus McClendon. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 28th, 2020, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Gabriel’s family present to greet family and friends. A private family funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at 10 a.m. at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor David Martin and Pastor Mark Clark officiating. Burial will follow services at Cuba Cemetery in Monroe County. Memorial contributions to assist in burial and end of life costs can be made directly to the family or via Venmo or GoFund me accounts.
