Dennis Lloyd Comstock

Dennis "Denny" Lloyd Comstock, age 64 of Albia, passed away after a long battle with cancer Friday, July 5, 2013, under the care of Monroe County Hospice at Monroe County Hospital in Albia. Denny was born November 1, 1948, to Robert Michael and Lorraine Josephine (Tice) Comstock in his grandmother's home in Albia. He married Cinda Stocker in 1995 at their home. A graduate of Albia High School, class of 1966, Denny enlisted in the United States Army April 26, 1970. After being honorably discharged April 26, 1976, he began working at Younkers as a stock clerk. He later worked for a meat packing plant in Illinois, Vermeer, John Deere, Grady Enterprises, and retired from 3M. Denny was a member of the American Legion, Howard Cessna Post #136. He loved wildlife, especially eagles and deer, being outdoors, putting up hay, and going on vacations. Anyone who knew him knew he was very artistic and didn't know a stranger. Family was everything to Denny, and he loved spending time with them. Denny is survived by his wife, Cinda Comstock of Albia; six children, Jessica Ledesma of Centerville, Deseree (Jay) McClendon of Avery, Jenisha (Greg) Davis of Albia, Dara Comstock of Altoona, Cade Comstock of Albia, and Melisa (Shelley) Keeton of Des Moines; three adopted children, Amanda Toopes of Albia, Stephanie (Ron) Slavens of Hartford and Jermain Autry; mother, Lorraine Comstock of Albia; 17 grandchildren, Ellena Ledesma and Maniya Autry, Jonus, Mujahid, Amina, Maryam, Hawwa, Muslima, Hudhaifa, Halima, and Muhammad McClendon, Tayla and Joselyn Davis, Darrian Stocker, Baxter and Jackson Keeton, and Gavin Slavens. He is also survived by seven siblings, Barbara Comstock of Lovilia, Mary (Dave) Roberts of Victor, John Comstock of Albia, Jeff (Pam) Comstock of Lovilia, Jean (Patrick) Giroux of Palmetto, FL, Marla (Rick) Clement of Natural Bridge, NY, and Milo (Annette) Comstock of Lovilia; a sister-in-law, Kathy (Jack) Keeton of Hartford; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Denny was preceded in death by his father; four brothers, Sgt. Robert James Comstock, Jerry Joe Wayne Comstock, Joey D. Comstock, and Michael Kevin Comstock; and a sister, Kathy Evans. As was Denny's wish, his body has been cremated and a memorial service will be 4 p.m., Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at Denny and Cinda's home south of Albia, with military rites provided by the American Legion of Albia, Lovilia, and Melrose. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m., Monday, July 8, 2013, at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Denny's family present from 5-8 p.m. Memorials may be made to Monroe County Hospice. Denny's family would like to thank Tonya Logsdon, Kim Murphy, Marla Hoven, and Kim Higginbotham with Hospice, and also Dr. Curiel and all the nurses at Monroe County Hospital.
