Debra Lynn Coop

Debra “Debbie” Lynn Coop, age 62, of Albia, IA, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia. Debbie was born on December 13, 1960, in Albia to Bill and Helene (Johnson) Storey. She grew up attending school and graduated from the Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1979. On August 15, 1981, she was united in marriage to Richard Coop at the Westland Church in Oskaloosa. Debbie and Richard were blessed with 3 children, Josh, Megan, and Chelsea, and shared 41 years of marriage prior to her passing. Debbie was a homemaker, staying at home to raise her children. She and Richard later owned and operated Coop’s Orchard for 18 years selling apples from home and at the Farmer’s Markets. Debbie also worked as an aide at Monroe County Professional Management for 4 years. Debbie attended the Avery Methodist Church. She enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, mushroom hunting, and roasting s’mores on the campfire. She loved to follow Richard and the band to listen to them play. She was an excellent cook, known for her roast, homemade noodles and cheesecake. Debbie was very giving and generous. She loved a good bargain and enjoyed thrift shopping and buying toys and princess dresses for her grandchildren. She loved animals, especially her dogs, Liberty and Porthos. Above all else, Debbie adored spending time with her grandchildren and attending their activities. Debbie is survived by her husband, Richard Coop; 3 children, Josh (Jenny) Coop, Megan (Kelly) Summers; and Chelsea (Dane) Francis; 5 grandchildren, Josh, Millie, Alyra, Ariya, and Rowan; her parents-in-law, Harold and Mary Coop; a brother-n-law, Roger Vance; and 2 sisters-in-law, Vickie (John) Hauge and Penny Jones. Debbie is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends. Debbie was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Helene Storey; her brothers, Richard, Gary and 2 brothers in infancy; a nephew, Danny McClurg; a sister-in-law, Kim Vance; a brother-in-law, Bob McClurg; a cousin, Lisa Laughead Myers; and her beloved dog, Mocha. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 12 2023, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Debbie’s family present from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. to greet family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 13, 2023, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastors Dennis and Teresa Miller officiating. Burial will follow services at Oak View Cemetery in Albia. An open memorial has been established to the family.
