Charles "Charlie" Eugene Stringfellow

Charles “Charlie” Eugene Stringfellow, age 75, of Albia, IA, passed away on Monday, December 11, 2023, at Oakwood Specialty Care under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice. Charlie was born on July 28, 1948, in Oskaloosa, IA, to Homer Eugene and Edith Marie (Burns) Stringfellow. He graduated from the Eddyville High School with the class of 1966. Following high school, Charlie served his country in the United States Navy from 1967-1968. In 1971, he was united in marriage to JoEylln Hope and to this union, 2 children, Joy and Chad, were born. Charlie and JoEllyn shared 32 years of marriage prior to JoEllyn’s passing on October 10, 2003. Charlie was a jack of trades, holding several different jobs before going to work as a leadman at Clow Valve Company in Oskaloosa for 15 years. In his younger years, Charlie enjoyed bowling and participated in numerous tournaments. He was a car enthusiast, owning 2 Corvettes and 2 Challengers and enjoyed going to car shows. Charlie and JoEllyn enjoyed riding motorcycles and loved to travel, with the Badlands and Branson being their favorite vacation spots. Charlie loved attending his grandchildren’s events and above all else, loved spending time with his family and friends. Charlie is survived by his daughter, Joy (Brandon) Plackett of LaSalle, IL; his son, Chad (Chrissy) Stringfellow of Palm Harbor, FL; 4 grandchildren, Hanna (Joe) Parochetti, Hunter Plackett, Zachary Plackett, U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer 3rd Class, and Tyler Stringfellow; 1 great grandchild, Jase a sister, Janet Marie (Wally) Wilson of Beaverdale, IA; and his stepsiblings, Ellen (Chuck) McCrea, Nora Dahly, Carol Ann McNeese, Evelyn Fierro, and Myrna Hynick; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Steele. Charlie is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends, especially Jim Bell. He was preceded in death by his wife, JoEllyn; his parents, Homer and Edith; his stepfather, Hubert Steele; and 2 stepsiblings, Gary Steele and Karen Alzon; and 5 stepbrothers-in-law, Frank Dahly, Harry McNeese, Ed Fierro, Paul Hynick, and Jake Alzon. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Charlie’s family present to greet family and friends. Military Honors will follow provided by the American Legion of Albia, Lovilia, and Melrose. A private family burial will be held at a later date. A memorial has been established to the Welcome Home Soldier Monument in Albia.
