Carol Ann Reed

Carol Ann “Sis” (Keegel) Reed, age 65, of Albia, Iowa, passed away surrounded by her loved ones on Friday, July 1, 2022, at her home in Albia, under the care of EveryStep Hospice. Carol was born February 17, 1957, in Albia at the hospital. She attended Albia High School and after school she worked at Millies café and the Bussey store. In Bussey, she met her love at a young age. Donnie and Carol later married October 28, 1972. With this marriage they shared 49 years and were blessed with two children, son John Reed and daughter Stacey Reed. After having children, Carol stayed home working on the family farm and raising the children. In Carol’s free time, you would either find her on the farm or hauling the kids around to mule shows. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends as well. Her weekends were usually spent playing slow pitch or cheering on family and friends at rodeos or sporting events. In her later years, you would find Carol at home on Friday night playing cards like casino or rummy or even a friendly game of wahoo until early Saturday morning. Then on Sunday morning you would find her drinking her hot cocoa or a glass of milk doing crafts. Carol is survived by her husband, Don Reed; two children, son John Reed and daughter Stacey Reed; one granddaughter, Maizie (Nolan) Wehr; two brothers, Jim Keegel and Waren (Sharon) Keegel; 3 sisters-in-law, Kathy Green, Mindy Reed, and Michele Harrington; 2 brothers-in-law, Den (Mo) Reed and Daune (Shelly) Reed; many nieces and nephews; a neighbor, Jo Ann Ahn; and her adopted family. Carol always had open arms and a spot at the supper table for anyone who might be stopping by. By doing this for many years she gathered many more “sons, daughters and even grandchildren.” Carol’s adopted family grew miles wide. Carol loved having them all around; her adopted family became like her own. She was known as Mama and Nana too many children that were not her own. Carol is preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Casey Keegel; her mother and father-in-law, Vera and Don “Speck” Reed; a brother, Mike Keegel; and a sister-in-law, Donna Keegel. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Carol’s family present throughout to greet family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 8, 2022, at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor Jeff Eason officiating. Burial will follow services at Bethel Cemetery in Mahaska County, Iowa. An open memorial has been established to the family. Condolences to the family may be left online at www.tharpfh.com.
