Betty June Weldon

Betty June Weldon, age 91, of Albia, IA, formerly of Lovilia, IA, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2023, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia. Betty was born on June 20, 1932, at home in Marion County to Cornelius and Hilda (Versteegh) VandenBerg. She graduated from the Lovilia High School. On July 4, 1952, she was united in marriage to William “Bill” Edgar Weldon Jr. in Unionville, MO, and to this union, 6 children were born, Sandie, Rhonda, Dee, Doug, Missy and Lynn. Betty and Bill were blessed with nearly 71 years of marriage prior to her passing. Betty was a homemaker, staying at home to raise her children. She later worked as the assistant cook at the Lovilia School, drove a school bus for many years, and was a caretaker for many people over the years, including her grandchildren. Betty loved animals of all kinds, owning and raising pets of all sorts, as well as breeding and selling dogs. She enjoyed being out and about, taking day trips, often going to thrift stores, rummage sales, and garage sales where she would get good deals. Betty was strong in her faith and enjoyed watching Christian Worship Hour with Harold E. Salem. She was an excellent cook, known for her homemade noodles. She had a huge heart, was very caring and generous and always willing to help anyone in need. Betty loved her family and cherished all of the time she spent with them. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother and a very proud grandmother and great grandmother who will be greatly missed by all. Betty is survived by her husband, Bill Weldon; 6 children, Sandie (Denny) McDaniel, Rhonda (Rob) Rardin, Dee (Russ) Chamberlain, Doug (Michelle) Weldon, Missy (Bill) Bayer, and Lynn (Jeff) Adler; 12 grandchildren, Shauna, Jason, Raegan (Cam), Jeremy, Garrett, Alex, Sydney, MaKenna, Hunter, Cole, Liam, and Lauren; and 5 great grandchildren, Emily, Trey, Quinnlyn, Harrison, and Taysom. Betty is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, good friends, and her partner in crime, Lola Ivins. She is preceded in death by her parents, Cornelius and Hilda VandenBerg and her siblings, Nellie, Judd, Gladys, Josephine, and Norma. A private family burial will be held at the Hamilton Cemetery in Hamilton, IA. An open memorial has been established to be determined at a later date.
