Sharon Norine Wilson, age 76, of Albia, passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2020, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia, Iowa, under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice. Sharon was born on October 17, 1944, to Edward and Darlene (Huffman) Ellis in Centerville, Iowa. She grew up and attended school in Centerville, graduating with the Class of 1962, before earning her teacher’s certificate from Indian Hills Community College. She married Mike Wilson in 1962 and to this union, 4 children were born, Cindie, Michelle, Geoffrey, and Tabatha. Sharon taught at Head Start in Albia for 17 years before taking a job as the housekeeping supervisor at Mercy Hospital in Centerville. Sharon was a former member of Eastern Star and Rainbow Mother Advisor. She loved to be outdoors, doing things such as flower gardening and watching the birds and squirrels at her feeders. She enjoyed crafts, especially making cards to give to others for all occasions. Sharon enjoyed cooking and entertaining and was known for her homemade bread, cookies, and candies at Christmas time. Her true joy in life was spending time with her family and friends, especially her children and grandchildren. Sharon is survived by her children, Cindie (Kelly) Deputy of Alma, Arkansas, Michelle (Eric) Hameister of Janesville, WI, Geoffrey (Brenda) Wilson of Ottumwa, IA, and Tabatha (Dan) Hood of Des Moines, IA; 10 grandchildren, Colton Weldon, Casey Weldon, Ryan Wilson, Andrew Wilson, Austin Johnson, Roger Griffiths, Eric Griffiths, Monica Harter, Ashlee Wilson and Erika Hood; and several great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends. Sharon is also survived by 4 siblings, Jim, Ken and Bill Ellis and Barbara Hull. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Darlene Ellis and a great granddaughter, Danika. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m-8:00 p.m, Thursday, October 22, 2020, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Sharon’s family present from 5:00-8:00 p.m. to greet family and friends. According to the rules put in place by the Iowa Department of Public Health, proper social distancing and reasonable personal protective equipment is advised for attending a religious public event. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 23, 2020, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor Christy Ehrle officiating. Burial will follow services in Oakland Cemetery in Centerville, IA. An open memorial has been established to the family to be determined at a later date.
