Michael John Kurimski

December 26, 1928 - March 5, 2006

Michael John Kurimski, age 77, resident of the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, and formerly of Lovilia, Iowa, died Sunday, March 5, 2006 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Michael was born December 26, 1928 in Lovilia, Iowa to Michael John and Nellie (Gergely). Michael married Myrtle Blackwood on December 16, 1947 in Bremerton, Washington. Michael served in the US Navy, as a Seaman 2nd class, during WWII. After his service Michael worked in building consruction, coal mines, Maytag, farming, and retired from Hormel Foods in Knoxville. Michael was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Lovilia, and the American Legion, Howard Cessna Post #136 of Albia. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, woodworking, and spending time with his family. Michael is survived by his wife, Myrtle Kurimski of Pleasant Hill; four Children, Michael John Kurimski III of Pleasant Hill, Linda Marie Franzen of Altoona, Theresa Diane Campbell of Chariton, and Pamela Rene Bennett of Monroe; 9 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. Michael is also survived by one brother, Joe Kurimski of Bussey; and two sisters, Anna Vanni of Granger and Nellie Croci of Cedar Falls. Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Nellie; granddaughter, Christina Lynn Pettyjohn; four brothers, George, Tom, Paul, and John Kurimski; and one sister, Helen Little. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Lovilia, with Rev. Scott Lemaster officiating. Burial will follow services at St. Peter's Cemetery in Lovilia, with military rites conducted by the Howard Cessna Post No. 136 American Legion of Albia. Visitation will begin after 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at the Winfield Funeral Home in Albia with the family present from 5-8 P.M., Tuesday evening. A Rosary service will also be held Tuesday evening at 7:00 P.M., at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown.
