Lundstrom, Age 84 of Ottumwa, died Monday, April 7, 2008, at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center in Ottumwa, Iowa. Merle was born in Hiteman, Iowa, on November 9, 1923, to Oscar Hilmer and Goldie Eleanor (Bacon) Lundstrom. As a youth Merle attended the Hiteman Methodist Church and graduated from Hiteman High School, as the class president of the graduating class of 1942. After graduation Merle served in the U.S. Army, During WWII. Merle was a staff sergeant in the 335th Infantry, 84th Infantry Division, and took part in the Battle of the Buldge. On June 10, 1950 Merle married Shirley Ann Maberry at the United Methodist Church in Albia. To this union three children were born. Merle worked for 26 years at John Morrell, and later was a supervisor for Everco. Merle was a member of the American Legion, Howard Cessna Post #136 of Albia, and the VFW of Ottumwa. He was also a former member of the First Lutheran Church in Ottumwa. Merle is survived by his wife, Shirley Lundstrom of Ottumwa; his three children, Marcia Blevins of Prole, Iowa, Joseph Lundstrom of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Sharon Stilwell and husband Scott of West Des Moines, Iowa; and three grandchildren, Jana Lundstrom, Matt Stilwell and Joe Stilwell. Merle is also survived by one sister, Lois Jamieson and husband David John of Albia; one brother, Phil Lundstrom and wife Sheila of Lovilia; one sister-in-law Sharon Lundstrom of Hiteman; and several nieces and nephews. Merle was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother Vernon Lundstrom. Memorial services will be held at 1:00P.M., Thursday, April 10, 2008, at the Winfield Funeral Home in Albia. Burial of cremated remains with military rite provided by the American Legion, Howard Cessna Post #136 will follow services at Oak View Cemetery of Albia, Iowa. No visitation will be held. Memorials may be given to the Ottumwa Fire and Rescue. Condolences may be made at www.winfieldfh.com
