John C. Hastings

April 7, 1939 - December 20, 2008

John C. Hastings, age 69, of Lovilia, died Saturday December 20, 2008, at the Monroe County Hospital Emergency Room in Albia, Iowa. John was born April 7, 1939 at home in Bluff Creek Township of Monroe County, Iowa to Robert and Deanie (Smith) Hastings. He graduated from Lovilia High School Class of 1957. On July 12, 1959 John married Gayle L. Baker at the Lovilia United Methodist Church. John and Gayle were married for over 49 years and were blessed with four children. John worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, for over 30 years. Most of his career he was a Maintenance Supervisor at the Red Rock Dam in Pella. He retired in 1994. John was also a member of the Lovilia United Methodist Church; he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting turkey, pheasant, deer, rabbit, squirrel, and mushrooms. John especially loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events. John is survived by his wife, Gayle Hastings of Lovilia; three sons, Tom Hastings of Lovilia, Mark Hastings and wife Kate of Lovilia, and Ed Hastings and wife Karissa of Pella; eight grandchildren, Steven Elam, Emily Hastings, Andrew Hastings, Hunter Hastings, Taylor Hastings, Jack Hastings, Lily Hastings, and Kalea Hastings. John is also survived by two brothers, Delbert Hastings and wife Barbara of Norway, Iowa, and Harold Hastings and wife Mary Jo of Lovilia. John is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Deanie; and one son, Randy Hastings. A memorial has been established to the Lovilia United Methodist Church.
