James Edward Fleener

James E. Fleener, age 68, of Albia, died Wednesday December 31, 2008, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia, Iowa. James was born February 24, 1940 in Mount Pleasant, Iowa to Samuel Lewis and Wilma Marie (Schlenker) Fleener. He attended Albia High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps from April 9, 1957 to May 25, 1960. After his service he married Ethel Johnson on December 7, 1961 in Chariton, Iowa. She died on October 26, 2004. James worked for 40 years with the Burlington Northern Santa Fee Railroad, retiring as a truck driver. He was also a member of the BMWE Railroad Union, and the First Baptist Church of Albia. James is survived by his two children, David Fleener and wife Kathy of Albia, and Alicia Hunt and husband Kevin of Oskaloosa; seven grandchildren, Teri (Loren) MacIntosh, Kris Robinson, Heather (Jim) Hastings, Michelle (Darwin) Thompson, Kevin J. (Tiah) Hunt, Stacey Hunt, and Brandon (Melissa) Hunt; and 12 great grandchildren. James is also survived by one brother, Sam Fleener Jr. (Rita) of Ft. Dodge, Jane Vitko of Albia, and Lea Weldon (Tim) of Iowa City. James is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Wilma; his wife, Ethel; one grandson, Jeremy Hunt; one brother, John Fleener; and one sister, Wilma Shelburg.
