George Yarkosky, Jr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

George Yarkosky Jr., age 90, of Albia, passed away Thursday, January 22, 2015, at the Oakwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Albia, Iowa. George was born March 10, 1924, to George and Susie (Adams) Yarkosky in Hiteman, IA. He attended rural Monroe County country school until 8th Grade. On February 14, 1953 he was united in marriage to Laurie Husted in Albia, and to this union 7 children were born, JoAnn, Clara Lu, LaDonna, Tom, Ron, Dave, and Ed. They shared 49 years of marriage together before her passing in 2003. George farmed throughout most of his life and also worked at John Morrell in Ottumwa for 24 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Albia. He enjoyed being outdoors, farming, building fences, and watching NASCAR and basketball games. His real joy in life was spending time with his family and friends. George is survived by his children; JoAnn Latta of Des Moines, Clara Lu (Jim) Shumaker of Johnston, Tom Yarkosky of Albia, Ron Yarkosky of Albia, Dave (Lori) Yarkosky of Albia, and Ed (Amanda) Yarkosky of Albia; 19 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren, two sisters; Helen Steinbach, and Sister Mary Karen Yarkosky, R.S.M. both of Johnston, one brother; Francis (Jerri) Yarkosky of Kansas City, Missouri, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; George Sr. and Susie; his wife, Laurie; a daughter, LaDonna Heath; and four brothers, Albert Yarkosky, John Yarkosky, Donald Yarkosky, and Joseph Yarkosky. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 26, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia, with Father Michael E. Volkmer, C.PP.S. officiating. Burial will follow services at St. Mary's Cemetery in Albia. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday, January 25, 2015 at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with George's family present from 4- 8:00 p.m. A 4:00 p.m. rosary will be led by St. Mary's Altar and Rosary society and a wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Cemetery
