Ethel Lorraine Lahart, age 89, of Albia, IA, passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at her home under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice. Ethel was born on December 5, 1931, to Daniel Quincy and Levada (Moyle) Caudill at home in Albia. She grew up attending school in Albia and graduated from the Albia High School with the Class of 1950. On May 27, 1951, Ethel was united in marriage to Marvin Heriford at the First Christian Church in Albia and to this union, 4 children were born, Janie, Harold, Edwin, and Todd. Marvin later passed away and on June 6, 1980, Ethel married Joseph Lahart at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Georgetown. In her younger years, Ethel worked at Ben Franklin before working at the Carriage Light Inn. Ethel was a nurse's aide/receptionist for many doctors in the area, including Dr. Cunningham, Dr. Avera, Dr. Merrick, Dr. Davis and Dr. Judge. When she married Joe in 1980, she also became a farmer and there was no chore too big for Ethel to help with. She liked to name the livestock, often times after her grandchildren. Ethel was a member of the First Christian Church in Albia for many years and then became a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Georgetown after her marriage to Joe. She was very active in the church activities, especially God's Portion Day, for which she was the top seller of raffle tickets. Ethel loved to dance and sing with the Sweet Adelines. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and collecting snowmen, key chains, and rocks. She was a great cook, known for her hamburgers, fried potatoes, and corn, as well as huge pancakes for the grandkids. Ethel's family was everything to her and she cherished all of the time spent with them, especially when all the grandchildren came over and played dress up. Ethel is survived by her husband, Joe Lahart; 3 children, Janie (Dick) Brock, Edwin (Julie) Heriford, and Todd Heriford (Pam Robinson); 7 grandchildren, Christina Frost (Rick Bregar), Amanda (Sam) Porter, Sara (Josh) Chance, Staci (Eric) Harms, Dusti (Letica) Heriford, Abbey Heriford, and Erik Heriford; 10 great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Teresa Lahart.
