Ella "Jane" Lemonds Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Ella “Jane” Lemonds, age 98, of Ballwin, MO, formerly of Kellogg, IA, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2022, at Brookdale West County Assisted Living Facility in Ballwin, MO. Jane was born on April 25, 1924, in Monroe County, IA, to George and Elsie (Hocking) Overmyer. She grew up attending school in Albia. On March 24, 1940, she was united in marriage to Leora “Tote” Lemonds in Unionville, MO, and to this union, 2 sons, Thomas and Phillip were born. Jane and Tote shared 63 years of marriage prior to Tote’s passing on November 7, 2003. Jane worked as a machine operator at Thombert Inc in Newton, IA. She was an incredibly compassionate and caring person. Her family often told her she missed her calling as she should have been a nurse. Her caring nature meant that nobody could be hungry in her presence. She always made enough food for 30 people, even if there were only 3 there. Jane enjoyed being outdoors, camping in their motorhome, and bird watching, especially cardinals. She loved animals, especially her dogs. Above all else, Jane loved her family and cherished all of the time spent with them. Jane is survived by 2 sons, Thomas (Jane) and Phillip Lemonds of Ballwin, MO; 2 granddaughters, Kimberly Johnson of Ballwin, MO and Kristine (Doug) Howland of Jefferson City, MO; and 3 great grandchildren, Tyler (Allie) Johnson and Payten and Chandler (Ashley) Howland. Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Leora “Tote” Lemonds; her parents, George and Elsie Overmyer; her brothers, Bob, Vernon, and Richard Overmyer; and a sister, Ruth Starrett. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Jane’s family present to greet family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor Roger Henry officiating. Burial will follow services at Oak View Cemetery in Albia. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Kellogg Fire and Ambulance Department in Kellogg, IA.
