Brenda Joyce Selby

Brenda Joyce Selby, age 64, of Albia, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2020, at her home in Albia, Iowa. Brenda was born on September 4, 1956, to Francis “Gene” and Madge (Spurgin) Selby in Albia. She grew up and attended school in Albia, graduating from the Albia Community High School, Class of 1974. She then went to the American Institute of Business, graduating with an Associate Degree in accounting. Brenda worked in Des Moines for 7 years and then later moved to Illinois where she worked for an accounting manager for 14 years. When she moved back to Albia, she found a home at Benton Place Apartments from her good friends, Doyle and Tina Mick. Brenda enjoyed knitting, her nieces and nephews (“her children”), music, and watching television. Brenda is survived by her brothers, Kirby (Pamela) Selby of Albia and Timothy (Mary Jo) Selby of Bussey; a sister, Valerie (Rick) Small of Audubon; and a sister-in-law, Lisa Selby of Bussey. She is also survived by her “children” (nieces and nephews), DeAnne and James Robinson, Regan Robinson, Sawyer Robinson, Emersyn Robinson, Lisa Jane and Jason Myers, Izabella Myers, Peyton Myers, Lily Myers, Jessica and Derrick Rohe, Austin Fabian, Waylon Fabian, Landry Fabian, Alexis Fabian, Kennedy Rohe, Kamry Rohe, Bradi Burr, Beau Nickum, Jasmine Nickum, Daytona Burr, Brooklyn Burr, Gabriella Small, Sean Lampier, Rylee Holdsworth, Ryker Holdsworth, Erin and Thad Phillips, Olivia Haas, Rylee Haas, Quinlin Phillips, Emmett Phillips, Jeremiah and Carrie Selby, Matthew Selby, Julia Selby, Caleb Selby, Camille Selby, Luke Selby, Andrea Selby and Steven Thomas, Gunner Thomas, Nora Thomas, Tyler and Abby Selby, Meghan Coulter, Evelyn Selby, Michael and Sarah Haluska, Leigh Haluska and her two beloved cats, Simba and Nala. Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Madge Selby; a brother, Richard Selby; a niece, Megan Selby; and a great nephew, Cameron Haluska. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 7, 2020, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with Brenda’s family present to greet family and friends. According to the rules put in place by the Iowa Department of Public Health, proper social distancing and reasonable personal protective equipment is advised for attending a religious public event. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 7, 2020, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with Pastor Brad Gray officiating. Memorials have been established to the Hydrocephalus Association, Mercy NICU, and the Animal Rescue League.
