Betty Starkweather

Betty Starkweather, age 84, of Albia and formerly of Muscatine, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 5, 2017 at the Oakwood Nursing and Rehabilitation center in Albia. Betty was born on October 13, 1932 to Fred and Katherine (Cadagon) McCullom in Muscatine, Iowa. She grew up and attended school in Muscatine. She was united in marriage to George J. Hatfield and they later divorced. She was later married to Ralph Starkweather on March 17, 1974 in Muscatine, Iowa. They shared 39 years of marriage together until Ralphs passing in 2013. Betty worked in many factories over the years and she was a homemaker. She was a member of the Faith United Church of Christ in Muscatine. She enjoyed coloring pictures and scrapbooking. Her real joy in life was spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her four sons, George F. Hatfield of Albia, Dale L. Hatfield of Mason City, Jerry Moyer of Texas and Garry Moyer of Rose Hill; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Betty is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends. Betty is preceded in death by parents, Fred and Katherine; her first husband George J. Hatfield, her late husband Ralph Starkweather and a sister, Velma Romkin. As was Betty’s wish, her body has been cremated and there are no services planned at this time.
