Betty Lou Fosenburg, age 89, of Albia, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, at the Monroe Care Center in Albia. Betty was born on October 3, 1931, to Arthur and Edythe (Plough) Mart at home on the farm in Monroe County. She grew up attending school in Eddyville, IA, and graduated from the Eddyville High School. On July 22, 1953, she was united in marriage to Henry “Hank” Fosenburg and to this union a daughter, Allyson, was born. Betty and Hank shared 46 years of marriage prior to his passing on October 22, 1999. While in high school, Betty worked at the King Theatre in Albia as well as at the local dry cleaners. She then moved to Des Moines and worked for Pully Freight Company as a bookkeeper before she and her husband, Hank, owned and operated Mode O Day Ladies Clothing Store in Albia. Betty was a very kind and generous person who was strong in her faith. She attended the Gospel Chapel Church in Albia. She loved to travel with her husband, especially to Palm Springs and Arizona. She also loved road trips with her sister, Bonnie, to Branson, MO, Phoenix, AZ, and Galena, IL. Betty enjoyed cleaning and sewing. She was a loving and devoted mother to Allyson. Betty is survived by her daughter, Allyson (Terry) Karl of Albia; 3 sisters, Bonnie Waits of Knoxville and June (John) Spencer and Joyce Moses both of Oskaloosa; and a brother, Roscoe Mart of Eddyville. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hank Fosenburg; her parents, Arthur and Edythe Mart; 2 brothers, Thayne and Rollin Mart; and a sister, Alice, in infancy. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Betty’s family present to greet family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 2, 2021, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor Mark Brandt officiating. Burial will follow services at Coal Creek Cemetery in Mahaska County. Due to the most recent proclamation and enhanced public health measures for the State of Iowa, masks will be mandatory for those in attendance over the age of 2. The service will be livestreamed on the Tharp Funeral Home Facebook page.
