Genevieve Arlene Lewis

Genevieve Arlene Lewis, 89 died on December 12, 2009, at the home of his daughter, Karilyn Newell (Lewis) of Whitewater, WI. Genevieve was born on July 24, 1920 to Inez (Jewell) and William DeWitt of Albia, Iowa. Genevieve was married to Clell Donald Lewis on November 10, 1943. She had two children, Robert L. Lewis of Creston, IA and Karilyn A (Lewis) Newell of Whitewater, WI. Genevieve and Clell were able to celebrate their 65th Wedding Anniversary. Genevieve's loving husband, Clell, died just two months ago on October 12, 2009. Genevieve and Clell lived on a farm north of Albia in Bluff Creek Township near old Buxton until 1995. Then they moved to 318 A Ave. East in Albia. Genevieve will always be remembered for her wonderful homemaking skills. She loved to garden, cook, clean, and care for her family. Her many talents also included sewing, quilting, and handwork. She not only gave graciously to her family but also to her community. She was involved in 4-H, cancer drives, and other charitable causes. Genevieve loved singing with the Albia Sweet Adelines and bowling on the Newell Elevator team. Genevieve was very faithful to her rural church, North Bethel Christian. She was a Sunday school teacher, church treasurer, took care of communion, and played the piano. She also served many offices in the North Bethel Ladies Aid, including president. Like her husband, Clell, Genevieve loved to play canasta when friends and family came to visit. She was always ready to serve good food or deserts to everyone who visited. She hosted many family functions and was always so pleased when people enjoyed their meals. But most importantly, Genevieve was a caring of her immediate family. She loved to be involved in all the activities of her children. Her life was happiest when she could be doing something with them or for them. She was a MOM and a great MOM. Genevieve was preceded in death by her husband Clell; her parents, William and Inez DeWitt; three sisters, Pauline Smith, Esther Peterson, La Vonne Chidester; two brothers, Carl Dewitt and Dale (Bob) DeWitt; and one great grandchild, Taylor Lewis. Genevieve is survived by one brother, Floyd DeWitt of Chariton, Iowa; her daughter Karilyn (Mike) Newell of Whitewater, WI and her son, Robert Lewis (Mildred Kay Hoffman) of Creston, Iowa; three grandchildren, Blaine Lewis, Bruce Lewis, and Douglas Newell; three great-grandchildren, Kelli (Lewis) Flenner, Sara Lewis, and Max Lewis; and two great great grandchildren, Stuart Fleener and Oliver Comstock.
