William "Bill" Cecil Crall

William “Bill” Crall, age 83, of Lovilia, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at the Pella Regional Health Center in Pella, Iowa. Bill was born on September 9, 1934 to Cecil and Agnus (Hutta) Crall at the family home near Weller, Iowa. He grew up and attended country school in Monroe County. He served his country in the United States Army from 1957-1963. On May 14, 1960 he was united in marriage to Joan Deeringer at St. Anthony’s Church in Knoxville, Iowa. To this union three children were born, Mary, JoAnn, and Billy. They shared 57 years of marriage together until Joan’s passing on January 2, 2015. Bill was a farmer and worked at Maytag for 30 years. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Weller until the church closed. He then became a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lovilia and lastly he was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing and especially coon hunting. His real joy in life was spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bill is survived by his children, Mary (Steve) Haagenson, of Virginia Beach, VA, JoAnn (Steven) Reed, of Oskaloosa, IA, and Billy (Joy) Crall, of Lovilia; nine grandchildren, Eric (Mercedes) Haagenson, JoAnna (Mitch) Roland, Ashley (Victor) Rigling, James (Emily) Provenzano, Tyler (Jessie) Crall, Josie (Brock) Davis, Brandon Ray, Brooks Cole, and Dakota Cole; 9 great-grandchildren, Zane Haagenson, Landyn and Cicealee and Livia Roland, Piper Provenzano, Amaya Rigling, Lincoln and Kinley Davis and Joni Crall; two sisters, Sheila (Richard) Sager and Mary Ann Ripenger and a brother, James (Linda) Crall. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Crall; his parents, Cecil and Agnus Crall; two brothers, Pat and Jack Crall; a brother-in-law, Mick Rippenger and three nephews, Jeff Shilling, Rick Sager and Paul Sager. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 25, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia, with Father Michael E. Volkmer C.PP.S. officiating. Burial with military rites will be provided by the American Legion of Albia, Lovilia and Melrose will follow services at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Weller. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 24, 2017 at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Bill's family present from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A 4:00 p.m. rosary will be led by St. Mary’s Altar and Rosary Society and a wake service will be held at 6:00 p.m. An open memorial has been established to Bill’s family.
