Wanda Bernice Tomlin

Wanda Bernice Cochran Tomlin, of Moravia, IA, passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2022. Wanda was born on March 24, 1934, the oldest of 9 children, to Lester and Edna (Faris) Cochran. She graduated from Moravia Community School in the class of 1952. Wanda married the love of her life, Dean Tomlin, on December 23, 1951. To this union, they were blessed with 3 children, Dean Jr., Debbie, and Mike. Wanda started at Meadow Gold holding several secretarial jobs throughout the years before retiring from Viskase. Wanda loved to be with family and friends. Along with helping Dean with his woodworking projects, she enjoyed cooking and baking. Wanda was known for her beautiful wedding cakes. She was a long-time member of the Grace United Methodist Church assisting with several committees. Left to honor Wanda’s memory are her children, Dean Jr. (Vicky) Tomlin of Albia, Debbie (Lee) Smothers of Moravia, and Mike (Barb) Tomlin of Unionville, MO; eleven grandchildren, Isaac Tomlin of Ottumwa, Rick (Stephanie) DeVore of Moravia, Jennifer Tomlin (Elliott) of Albia, Heather Maletta (Tim Potter) of Moravia, Miranda (Cliff) Tucker of Ottumwa, Anthony (Brooke) Smothers of Glenwood, Brandon (Kara) Tomlin of Albia, Rachelle (Jacob) Beals of Adel, Brianna (TJ) Thies of Cedar Rapids, and Sydney Tomlin (Dylan Heidenwith) and Chase Tomlin of Unionville, MO; twenty-two great grandchildren; sisters, Norma Thomas of Centerville, Carolyn Woodward of Moravia, Donna (Tom) Romanco of Lovilia, and Alta (Gene) Daniels of Moravia; and brothers, Ed (June) Cochran of Centerville and Ted (Shalise) Cochran of Hays, KS. Wanda is also survived by several nieces and nephews and a host of special friends. Wanda is preceded in death by her husband, Dean; parents, Lester and Edna Cochran; in-laws, Carl and Roma Tomlin; sister, Judy Whitlow; brother, James Cochran; a grandson, Kenny Smothers; and several brothers and sisters-in-law. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 7, 2023, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Moravia, IA, with Pastor Christy Ehrle officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at the Fellowship Hall in Moravia, IA, with Wanda’s family present to greet family and friends. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Grace United Methodist Church.
