Valery "Val" Dean Allsup

Valery “Val” Dean Allsup, age 58, of Cedar, Iowa, passed away on Friday, December 8, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his loved ones, under the care of Mahaska Health Hospice. Val was born on February 1, 1965, in Winterset, IA, to Robert and Helen (Rudolf) Allsup. He graduated from the Albia Iowa School with the class of 1984. Upon graduating, Val joined the United States Army where he served 12 years with the 224th Combat Engineers and went to Germany. After returning from the service, Val worked at Jack Blackwell Tire, Kephart Construction, Klodts Dairy Farm, Quincey Tire, Riverside Auto, owned and operated Allsup’s Auto Repair and lastly was the shop manager for Tri-County Repair in Eddyville, IA, when forced to retire early due to his health. Val enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting and took great pride in his garden. He was a very talented guitarist and enjoyed family get togethers where he would play and sing. Most of all, he enjoyed time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Val is survived by the love of his life, Beverly Davis of Cedar, IA; his sisters, Cristy Sellers of Winterset, IA and Karla (Randy) Gehringer of St. Mary’s, IA; a brother, Robert (Abby Demichelis) Allsup of Melrose, IA; a special woman he called “Mom”, Betty Gay of Rose Hill, IA; his children, LaTosha (Anthony) Lines of University Park, IA, Lance Allsup of Eddyville, IA, Matthew Molesworth of Ottumwa, Rebecca (Jeremie) Francis of Bloomfield, IA, Christina (Jarrod) Hatfield of Oskaloosa, IA, and Eric Molesworth (Nikki Lynch) of Hedrick, IA; a special son-in-law, Mike DeWild of Blakesburg, IA; and a special daughter-in-law, Sara Molesworth of Agency, IA. Val and Bev have 26 grandchildren, Nobalee Lines, Bryleigh Jackson, Khallie Jackson, Kenzie Lines, Kolton Lines, and Bennett Lines, all of University Park, Gavin Meeks, Gauge Allsup, Dace Meeks, and Bryant Allsup of Eddyville, Aidan and Lia Molesworth of Michigan, Blake and Cami Deevers of Eddyville, Joseph Myers of South Carolina, Aliya Myers of Blakesburg, Adeline and Jeremiah Francis of Bloomfield, Abagael and Austin DeWild, Cooper Molesworth, and Casten Hatfield all of Oskaloosa; Paige and Libby Molesworth of Oskaloosa; and McKayla and Colton Molesworth of Agency. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Helen Allsup; grandparents, Earl and Flossie Allsup and Frank and Eletha Rudolf; a brother-in-law, Jim Sellers; and a very special man that he called “Dad”, Vernon Gay. Val was also preceded in death by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m-.7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Val’s family present from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. to greet family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 14, 2023, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor Mike Sinnett officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the American Legion of Albia, Lovilia, and Melrose, will follow services at Highland Cemetery in Eddyville, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to be designated at a later date. Val’s family would like to give a special thank you to Kathy Bacon and the team at Mahaska Health Hospice for the excellent care provided to Val.
