Spenser Timothy Ahn

In the early morning of Wednesday, August 23, 2023, Spenser Ahn earned his heavenly wings. His short life was a beautiful ride with a few rough turns. At the end of his journey, we chose to bring him back to Albia to celebrate the memories we have of him. Spenser Timothy Ahn was born May 26, 1987 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Tim and Jill Reardon Ahn. He quickly grew to be a very mischievous boy with a contagious smile and blonde skateboarder haircut. He loved everything about being outdoors, especially climbing trees and playing in the snow. He was often seen in his Albia neighborhood riding his bike or cruising shotgun in his dad’s pickup truck. Spenser attended school in Oskaloosa where he enjoyed the challenge of varsity wrestling before graduating from Marshalltown High School in 2006. With his magnetic persona and jokes, he made friends in every classroom and party he attended. His favorite sidekick was Mitch McCrink who always had his back and are finally reunited. He loved the thrill of motocross, trial bikes, racing, and the classic car show Goodguys. Out of all the cars in the world, Spenser’s dream car was a rat rod because of their unique imperfections. He was a movie buff, and his collection of DVDs became worn and scratched over the years as he watched them over and over to memorize every comedy line that he could throw into conversations. Spenser never cared for school, but his hidden talents were creative drawing and writing that he rarely shared, but he was openly proud of his expertise as a meat cutter and excellent culinary skills. Spenser loved all genres of music, playing his djembe drum, Converse shoes and a perfectly grilled steak. He never obsessed over materialistic things and dreamed of living off the grid. He was a free spirit with a soft heart who truly wanted to make the world a place where love and friendship dominates the hearts of all. Spenser’s friends said he was a great listener with wise advice beyond his years. He would give the shirt off his back to an absolute stranger and would have rescued every pit bull off the streets if he was able to. But there was only one brindle red-nosed pittie that was fortunate enough to be taken in by Spenser. Marley was the center of Spenser’s world, especially on the rough days. Spenser is survived by his mother Jill Reardon Ahn, his father and stepmother Tim and Sandra Ahn, his sister and brother-in-law Victoria and Gregg Max, grandparents Colette and Rich Mason, Jim Ahn, John and Nancy Reardon, and his godmother, Sandy Anderson. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his godfather, Chris Anderson. His family thanks everyone for their thoughtfulness and support during this difficult time. The family would also like to thank the compassionate nursing staff and Dr. Jain at the Methodist Critical Care Unit. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Spenser to ARL of Iowa to help amazing dogs who deserve loving homes. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Spenser’s family present throughout to greet family and friends. A celebration of life service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
