Sharon Kaye Mason

Sharon Kaye Mason, age 74, of Albia, IA, passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2024, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines, IA, surrounded by her loved ones. Sharon was born on November 27, 1949, in Albia, IA, to Arthur and Edna (Shelquist) Robinson. She grew up attending school and graduated from the Albia High School with the class of 1967. Sharon then attended Indian Hills Community College, graduating as a Certified Paralegal in 1969. Sharon married James Bell and to this union 3 children were born, Teresa, Christine and Brian. Sharon and James later divorced. On May 24, 1997, she was united in marriage to Don Mason. Sharon and Don shared 27 years of marriage prior to her passing. Sharon worked on the assembly line at Chamberlains in Albia building doors. She then managed Casey’s in Albia before working as a paralegal at Brown, Winick, and Graves Law Firm where she was instrumental in assisting with the Star Coal clean up. Lastly, Sharon was a secretary at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia. Sharon had a very strong faith her whole life and was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia where she was very active in Bible studies and helping organize and serve funeral luncheons. She enjoyed being outdoors and flower gardening and had a vast knowledge of plants, flowers and their care. The 2nd Amendment was very important to Sharon and she enjoyed target shooting. She also enjoyed taking wildlife photos. Sharon had her motorcycle license. She and Don took numerous motorcycle trips to different places such as Wyoming, Montana, and Nebraska. They were members of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA) and later the Christian Motorcycles Club. Sharon’s true joy in life was spending time with her family. Sharon is survived by her husband, Don Mason; 2 children, Chris (Terry) Beaird and Brian (Dawn) Bell; 2 stepchildren, Joe (Angie) Mason and Annette (Tony) Babcock; 13 grandchildren, Kyle McDanel, Zoey Bell, Abby Mason, AJ Mason, Grace Mason, Marion Mason, Ally (Dakota) Conn, Anna Babcock, Andrew (Isabella) Babcock, Austin Babcock, Jose Babcock, Christina Babcock, and Manny Babcock; 1 great grandchild, Calvin; and 3 sisters, Linda (Jerry) Morton, Carol (Steve) Marlin, and Mary (Chuck) Estrada. Sharon is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends. Sharon is preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa; her parents, Arthur and Edna Robinson; and a brother, Tom Robinson. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Sharon’s family present from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. to greet family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at the Albia Trinity Church, with Pastor Cory Gibson officiating. Burial will follow services at Service Chapel Cemetery in Albia. An open memorial has been established to the family to be determined at a later date.
