Sandra "Jean" Rogers

Sandra Jean Rogers (“Jean”), 82 of Albia passed away on October 14, 2023. Jean was born on June 17, 1941, to Pauline and Dwight “Pete” Johnson. She grew up in Albia with her mother and two younger brothers. In 1958, Jean eloped with the man she would spend the next 65 years with, Jim Rogers. Jim entered the Army and they spent their first year together in Germany then returned to Albia and made their home on a farm south of Albia where Jean made the transition from city to farm life. Although she never learned to love the chickens, she did love her three children, Kim, Steve, and Robin. Jean was always busy. She was active in her church and always there to help serve others. Besides making sure there was always a fresh baked pie, cinnamon rolls, or other sweets in the house for husband Jim, at home she enjoyed sewing and quilting, and each grandchild received a “made with love by grandma” quilt upon graduation. As soon as the weather allowed, Jean was outside watering and weeding and pruning to raise her many beautiful flowers. Together Jean and Jim enjoyed square dancing, card parties and camping with friends. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jerry Johnson and half brother Arlan Smith. She is survived by her husband Jim, children Kim (Jon) Gorham, Steve Rogers, Robin (Mick) Critchlow, grandchildren Paige (Zac) Christensen, Ryan (Amber) Lennie, Nicki (Joshua) Farrington, Ian Gorham, Seth Gorham, and Brooke Gorham, and great grandchildren Ellis Christensen, Kylie Lennie and Olivia Farrington and her brother Jackie (Ruth) Johnson. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Jean’s family present from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. to greet family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at the Albia Trinity Church. Burial will follow services at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in rural Monroe County. Memorials have been established to the Welcome Home Soldier Monument in Albia and Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Monroe County.
