Rosealee Rhodes

Rosealee Rhodes, age 69, of Albia, IA, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2024, at MercyOne Hospital in Des Moines, IA. Rosealee was born on August 23, 1954, in Newton, IA, to Ernest and Katheryne Marie (Coop) Selby. She grew up attending school and graduated from Newton High School. In 1973, she was united in marriage to Jim Vos and to this union, 2 children, Don and Tina, were born. Rosealee and Jim later divorced. On June 8, 2002, she married Jackie “Jack” Ellis Rhodes at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia. They shared 22 years of marriage prior to Jack’s passing on March 5, 2024. Rosealee waitressed at A&W. In her younger years, she was a truck driver. She later worked at Monroe County Professional Management in Albia for several years where she was a house manager/direct support staff working with individuals with disabilities. She also bartended at the Owl Tap and Murph’s in Albia. Rosealee loved to cook and bake to share with others and was known for her chicken and noodles and deviled eggs. She enjoyed going to the casino to play the slot machines. She loved to visit with others, enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and looked forward to her afternoon meetings with the neighbors. Rosealee’s faith was important to her and she was proud of having declared her faith by being baptized later in life. Rosealee is survived by her son, Don (Kelley) Vos; 7 grandchildren, Brian, Morgan, Tara, Zach, Dalton, Makenna, and Kimberlyn; a brother, Terry Selby; and special friends, Chris, Mary, and Sherri. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends. Rosealee is preceded in death by her husband, Jackie Rhodes; a daughter, Tina; her parents, Ernest and Katheryne Selby; her twin sister, Rosemarie; a baby sister, Connie; and 2 brothers, Jerry and Garry Selby. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Rosealee’s family present to greet family and friends. Graveside services will follow the visitation at Service Chapel Cemetery in Albia, with Pastor Brad Gray officiating. Inurnment for Rosealee and her husband, Jack Rhodes, will take place at this time. A procession will form at the Tharp Funeral Home following visitation for those wishing to process to the cemetery. An open memorial has been established to the family.
