Milo Lee McCombs

Milo Lee McCombs, age 64, of Lovilia, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2020, at his home in Lovilia, surrounded by his loved ones and under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice. Milo was born on June 24, 1956, to Gene and Marge (Hyer) McCombs in Missouri. He grew up and attended school in Albia. On June 26, 1976, he was united in marriage to Cindy Brees in Bethany, MO. To this union, 4 children were born, Charity, Justin, Samantha, and Bill. Milo and Cindy shared 44 years of marriage prior to his passing. Following high school, Milo went to work in the coalmines, working for different companies including Ico, McConville’s and Shinn’s. He then went to work for the landfill where he was a heavy equipment operator and later an equipment supervisor. Milo also owned and operated Shade Tree Repair in Lovilia for over 30 years. Milo enjoyed being outdoors and mushroom hunting. He loved antiques and hunting for and collecting old bottles from the Buxton area, as well as collecting watch fobs. Milo was a very talented mechanic who could fix anything from cars to heavy equipment. He enjoyed the history of the coalmines in the Lovilia and Buxton area. He loved to hang out with his friends in his garage. Family was everything to Milo and he cherished the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Milo is survived by his wife, Cindy McCombs; 4 children, Charity McCombs, Justin McCombs, Samantha (Justin) Nichols, and Bill McCombs; 10 grandchildren, Triston, Dalton, Colton, Gracie, Payton, Alisyn, Lillie, Braxton, Preston and Jocelyn; and his siblings, Sandy McCombs, Wendell McCombs, Michelle (Dale) Sandusky, Larry Goemaat, Chris (Brenda) McCombs, and Bill (Kathleen) McCombs. Milo is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Marge; and 4 siblings, Nathan McCombs, Marlin Goemaat, Harold McCombs, and Norma Jean Blaylock. Visitation will be held from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2020, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with Milo’s family present from 5:00-8:00 p.m. to greet family and friends. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2020, at the Hamilton City Hall at 407 East Street, Hamilton, IA 50116, with Jeff Comstock officiating. A memorial has been established to DaVita Pella Dialysis in Pella, IA.
