Margaret Rogers

Margaret Stephens Rogers, age 89 of Albia, passed away on Friday, May 8, 2015, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia. Margaret was born February 2, 1926, to James and Martha (Fry) See in Tyrone, Iowa. She married Orval Stephens on January 22, 1945, in Albia. To this union, 6 children were born, George, Ray, Lois, Kay, Lee, and Judy. They shared 27 years of marriage before Orval passed away on September 3, 1972. Margaret later married Dow Rogers on July 30, 1977, in Albia. They shared 10 years of marriage prior to him passing away on September 4, 1987. Margaret grew up and attended Lincoln School in Albia. She worked at Baxter Box Factory in Albia and waitressed at Cassie's Café. She then worked at Chamberlains in Albia and later at the Albia Manor. Margaret was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was very talented and enjoyed sewing, quilting, and embroidering. She enjoyed reading and being outdoors doing things such as gardening vegetables and flowers. She enjoyed traveling with Dow and later with her daughters. Her true joy in life was spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her children, George (Marsha Driskell) Stephens of Albia, Ray (Carol) Stephens of Albia, Lois (Gene) Behrens of Albia, Kay (Frank) Miller of Albia, Lee (Christi) Stephens of Albia, and Judy (Kevin) Dunkin of Columbia, MO; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Martha; her 2 husbands, Orval Stephens and Dow Rogers; a granddaughter, Connie Sue Stephens; a grandson, David Stephens; 3 sisters; 5 brothers; and a daughter-in-law, Diana Stephens. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor Nancy Reed officiating. Burial will follow services. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2015 at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Margaret's family present from 5:00-8:00 p.m. A memorial has been established to Welcome Home Soldier.
