Laura Lynn Belt

Laura Lynn (Stewart) Belt, age 46, of Corydon, IA, formerly of Albia, IA, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines, IA, surrounded by her loved ones. Laura was born on November 23, 1977, at the Albia Hospital to John Sr. and Georgetta (Lawrence) Stewart. She grew up attending school in Albia and graduated with the class of 1997. On July 4, 1999, she was united in marriage to Troy Cormeny in Moravia. Laura and Troy later divorced. On September 2, 2017, she married Paul Belt in Albia. Laura was very kind and compassionate with a passion for helping others. She worked at Ragtime Industries in Albia as an aide and helped deliver mousetraps to Kness Manufacturing. She then went to work at Optimae in Centerville as a Direct Support Professional. Laura also babysat children over the years. Laura enjoyed bowling and participated in a bowling league. She enjoyed being outdoors, camping and bowhunting. She loved going to demolition derbies, even driving in one herself. She enjoyed playing cards and board games, such as 31 and Wahoo. Her true joy in life was spending time with her family and friends, especially at family cookouts. Laura is survived by her husband, Paul Belt; a sister, Misty (Jimmie) Skinner; a brother, John Jr. (Pauletta Rhodes) Stewart; her stepmother, Terri Stewart; 2 stepsiblings, Tyson Hackett and Jessica (Nick) Kendall; her mother-in-law, Karen Belt; her nieces, Cheyenne Skinner, Trinity Rhodes, Rylie Stewart, Jessica Cormeny, and Brenda Arrington; her nephews, Austin Nelson, Dylan Belt, Aiden Belt, Riliegh Belt, Kaleb Belt, Matthew Cormeny, Dakota Cormeny, Michael Cormeny, Jacob Brownlee, and Joshua Fuller; and her 3 dogs, Lulu, Zeus, and Keana. Laura is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, and good friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Sr. and Georgetta Stewart; her grandparents, Albert and Irene Stewart and William and LaDonna Beall; her father-in-law, Richard Belt; a dog, Sammy; and several aunts and uncles. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. on Monday, May20, 2024, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Laura’s family present from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. to greet family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held starting at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Laura’s brother John’s house, 137 17th Ave. East, Albia, IA 52531. An open memorial has been established to the family.
