Joyce Marie Claver

Joyce Marie Claver, age 84, of Lovilia, passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia. Joyce was born on November 25, 1936, to William and Grace Moyle in Albia. She grew up and attended school in Albia, graduating from the Albia High School with the Class of 1954. On March 18, 1955, she was united in marriage to Eugene “Gene” Claver at the United Brethren Church in Albia. To this union, three children were born, Dennis, Danny, and Carole. Joyce and Gene shared 64 years of marriage prior to his passing on December 12, 2019. In her younger years, Joyce worked in Des Moines for a year and then as a secretary at Farm Bureau before becoming a homemaker and farm wife, helping her husband Gene on the farm for many years. Joyce was talented and enjoyed different crafts, such as crocheting doilies and painting ceramics. She loved to garden and can her produce, as well as tending to her beautiful flowers. She enjoyed singing and cooking and was known for her Chex mix. Above all, Joyce loved her family and treasured the time spent with them, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joyce is survived by 3 children, Dennis Claver, Danny Claver, and Carole (Dave) Chesnut; 7 grandchildren, Curtis (Sharis) Claver, Lisa (Jake) Keegel, Aaron (Jerusha) Claver, Christopher (Cierra) Bowersock, Brittany (Dylan) Roberts, Adam Claver, and Danelle (Claver) Mason; and 20 great grandchildren. Joyce is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Claver; her parents, William and Grace Moyle; 2 brothers, Jack and Gary; a great grandson, Lukas Beck; her parents-in-law, Ralph and Cleta Claver; and a sister-in-law, Marilyn (Martin) Tierney. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2021, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Joyce’s family present from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. to greet family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 9, 2021, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor Roger Henry officiating. Burial will follow services at Oak View Cemetery in Albia. A memorial has been established to the family to the Alzheimer’s Association of America.
