Joseph "Joe" Andrew Nupp

Joseph “Joe” Andrew Nupp, age 65, of Lovilia, Iowa, formerly of Hiteman, IA, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2023, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Joe was born April 20, 1957, at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia to Robert James and Margaret Mae (Wilcoxson) Nupp. He grew up attending school in Albia. Joe worked at Kaiser Brothers (now Martin Marietta) running equipment and loading rock into trucks for 37 years until he medically retired in 2017. Joe enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, mushroom hunting, and shooting guns. He was an excellent cook and baker, known for his chili, oyster soup, drunken pasta salad, and homemade bread, rolls, and pies. He was an avid John Wayne, Reba McEntire, and Minnesota Vikings fan. He had a large collection of John Wayne memorabilia as well as a large Hot Wheels collection. He loved his ’66 Mustang and going to car shows. Joe was a very generous man who always put others needs before his own. He enjoyed visiting with his friends over a cold Busch Light. Above all else, Joe enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandbabies. Joe is survived by his special companion, Dorothy Wagner and her daughter; Steph Kingery; his children, Ashley (Jeff) Runnells, Kaylia (Marc) Etcher, and Sierra Spaur; 11 grandbabies, Jace, Levi, Aiden, Rileigh, Alyssa, Sawyar, Lois, Brantley, Charlotte, P.J., and Jude; 1 great grandbaby, Axle and another on the way; 2 siblings, Debra Nelson and Kenneth Nupp; his lifelong best friends, Jimmy Anderson and Donny Ward; and his beloved dog, Taurus. Joe is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Margaret; a grandbaby, Ethan; 6 siblings, Perry Nupp, Donald Nupp, Norman Nupp, Ethel Williams, Dorothy Williams, and Betty Keith; a sister-in-law, Mary Nupp; and a niece, Barb Nupp. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Joe’s family present from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. to greet family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 24, 2023, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor John Sowers officiating. Burial will follow services at the Hiteman Cemetery in Hiteman, Iowa. An open memorial has been established to the family.
