Jason "Jay" Edgar Wilson

Jason “Jay” Edgar Wilson, age 82, of Albia, Iowa, passed away at his home on Saturday, December 16, 2023. Jay was born on February 11, 1941, at home in Brompton, IA, to William Clarence and Marguerite Genevia (Kent) Wilson. He attended country school and later the Moravia High School, graduating with the class of 1958. On June 30, 1962, he was united in marriage to Carol “Jean” Dicks at the EUB Church in Albia and to this union, 2 sons, Brad and Bruce, were born. Jay and Jean shared 49 years of marriage prior to Jean’s passing on August 17, 2011. Jay worked as a mechanic at Henderson Implement in Albia for 28 years, where he often worked on square balers. He then went to work at the Monroe County Roads Department where he mowed ditches with the long arm mower. Upon retirement, Jay enjoyed farming with his son, Brad. Jay was a founding member of the Eagles Club in Albia. He was also a member of the Antique Tractor Club. Jay volunteered his time as a Cub Scout leader when his sons were young. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tell stories. He often cut out jokes from the newspapers to send to his grandchildren. He enjoyed square dancing. Jay loved to visit with others and often visited with his friends over coffee at Hardees. Jay’s true joy in life was spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed watching his grandson race and attending his granddaughter’s dance events. Jay is survived by his sons, Brad Wilson and Bruce (Kristen) Wilson; 2 grandchildren, Garett and Olivia; and a brother, Tom (Marilyn) Wilson. Jay is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; his parents; William and Marguerite; 2 brothers, John and Jim; and a sister, Dorotha Mae. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with Jay’s family present to greet family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor Richard Grimes officiating. Burial will follow services at Union Chapel Cemetery in Albia. Memorials have been established to Union Chapel Cemetery in Albia or Eslinger Cemetery in Albia.
