Gweneth Marcene "LaVonne" Bolin

Gweneth Marcene “LaVonne” Bolin, age 94, passed away on Friday, February 7, 2025, at the Oskaloosa Care Center in Oskaloosa, IA. LaVonne was born on April 16, 1930, in Moulton, IA, to Ross and Ruth I. (Garman) Moore. She grew up attending country school before attending Udell High School. On March 29, 1953, she was united in marriage to Donald Francis Bolin at the Methodist Church in Moulton, and to this union, 3 children were born, Donnie, Dennie and Lonna. LaVonne was a schoolteacher at a country school in Moulton, as well as being a homemaker and helping her husband, Don, on the farm. She moved to West Des Moines and lived there for 13 years. She worked for the Moravia School District as a cook in the cafeteria after Donald’s passing on October 25, 1985. LaVonne was a member of the Moravia Methodist Church as well as the Women’s Auxiliary in Moravia. She was an excellent cook, known for her homemade noodles. Her friend, Wanda Tomlin, and her started selling homemade noodles for the church at the Christmas Bizarre. She also made wedding cakes. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes football and basketball fan and enjoyed bus trips to Kansas City Chiefs games with Donald and friends. She also enjoyed ice cream socials with her friends. Above all else, LaVonne’s true joy in life was spending time with her family. LaVonne is survived by a son, Dennie (Susan) Bolin of Moravia; a daughter, Lonna Kaster of Eddyville; a daughter-in-law, Jan Bolin of West Des Moines; 11 grandchildren, Heather, TJ, Katie, Meggie, Damien, Ericka, Patrick, Brian, Jason, Natalie, and Kimberlie; 18 great grandchildren, Shaleigh, Kylie, Callie, Brody, Preston, Ellery, Sadie, Aven, Hazel, Evan, Brylie, Jocelyn, Annika; Myles, Olive, Tristen, Kelly, and Aurora; 6 great-great grandchildren, Henzlee, Brantlee, Brexleigh, Brennick, Maelyn, and Ellie; a brother, Gerry (Karen) Moore; and a sister-in-law, Dorene (Terry) Shaw. LaVonne is also survived by several other nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her son, Donnie; her parents, Ross and Ruth Moore; her in-laws, Lloyd and Mary Bolin; and 2 brothers, Verdean and Vernon Moore. Per LaVonne’s wishes, her body has been cremated and no formal services are planned. A private family burial will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia at a later date. A memorial has been established to the Moravia Grace Church in Moravia, IA.
