Monroe County lost a good Irish, Catholic, a Democrat, and Farmer. Evelyn was born February 4, 1920, in Weller, Iowa, to Mike and Mary (Sheedy) Heyland. She attended school in Monroe County. Evelyn married Clark S. Ryan on April 23, 1940, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Weller and to this union six daughters were born. Evelyn was a homemaker and farmer. She retired from farming in 1983 and moved to Albia. Evelyn began a second career, devoting a lot of her time to arts and crafts, and her loving circle of friends. Evelyn was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Weller, before joining the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia. Evelyn was active in the Altar and Rosary Society. Evelyn is survived by her children; Phyllis Ryan Bell of Des Moines, Shirley Shultz (Jack) of Pella, Mary Jo Ryan of Norwalk, Debbie Lechner (John) of Kirksville, MO., and Patty Rooney (Ted) of Des Moines; 14 grandchildren, Sheilah Bell, Vanessa Braddock (Ken), Susan Hardine (Mick), Jacquelyn Minshall (Shannon), Ryan Shultz (Sue), Kelly Wyckoff (Andy), Jodi Cornish (John), Kurt Kness, Katie Clay (Bryan), Courtney Lechner, Kelsy Hamilton (Justin), Kelly Rooney - Kozak (Roman), Maggie Rooney - Kelly (Aaron), and Jacy Duchene. Evelyn is also survived by 15 great grandchildren, Austin, Anita, Logan, Alex, Andrew, Aaron, Olivia, Zoe, Rush, Rachel, Regan, Madeline, Jackson, Deklyn, Maksym; and several nieces and nephews. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Mary; her husband, Clark; one daughter Mary Jane Ryan in infancy; and two sisters, Alice Judge, and Bernadette Maddy Funeral services will be held at 10:30A.M., Saturday, March 8, 2008, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia, with Rev. Michael E. Volkmer C.PPS. Burial will follow services at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Weller. Visitation will begin at 11:00 A.M., Friday, March 7th, at the Winfield Funeral Home in Albia. Evelyn's family will be present from 3 to 8:00 P.M., Friday evening. A Rosary Service will also be led at 4:00 P.M., Friday and a Christian Wake Service will be led by Rev. Volkmer, C.PP.S. at 7:30 P.M., Friday evening at the Winfield Funeral Home Memorials may be given to Hospice of Monroe County. Condolences may be made at www.winfieldfh.com
