Dorothy "Jane" Koffman

Dorothy “Jane” Koffman, age 75, of Albia, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines, IA. Jane was born on February 13, 1947, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Ottumwa to Elmer Donald and Ruth Mary (Wilson) Lewis. She grew up attending school in Albia and graduated with the class of 1965. Following high school, Jane went to Ottumwa Heights and later to St. Joseph’s School of Nursing where she obtained her Registered Nursing Degree in 1967. On February 28, 1970, she was united in marriage to Paul V. Koffman and they were blessed with 6 children, Paul, Steve, Helen, Sarah, Elizabeth “Betsy” and Jim. Jane and Paul shared 38 years of marriage prior to his passing on April 10, 2008. Jane worked at Monroe County Hospital as an RN and Director of Nursing and later as a Case Manager in Risk Control Management, for a total of 46 years before retiring in 2014. She loved working there and loved her work family. Jane was member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia and a past member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was an excellent baker and cook, known for her frosted sugar cookies and rolls. Jane was very caring and generous. She never missed an event or activity of her children’s or grandchildren’s, no matter if she had to work that day or how far she had to travel. She enjoyed knitting and reading. Jane’s true joy in life was spending time with her family and friends. She cherished all of the time she spent with them and loved having a full house. Jane is survived by 6 children, Paul (Kathleen) Koffman of Overland Park, KS, Steve (Jody) Koffman of Knoxville, IA, Helen (Marty) Stout of Eddyville, IA, Sarah (Monte) Mister of O’Fallon, IL, Elizabeth (Jamie) Tille of Knoxville, IA, and Jim (Amie) Koffman of Eddyville, IA; 14 grandchildren, Kristina Koffman, Booker Koffman, Macy Koffman, McKinley (James) Veatch, Trey (Sloane Magill) Moore, Brooks Moore, Aubrey Jane Mister, Tyce Mister, Cheyenne Tille, Carter Koffman, Jaylea Koffman, Jayce (Harlie) Riley, Courteney Riley, and Cayel Riley; 3 great grandchildren, Addison, Lynlee, and Sterling; special cousins, Paul and Frank Montgomery; and her good friend, Susie Prevo. Jane is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Paul and her parents, Elmer and Ruth Lewis. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 6, 2022, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Jane’s family present from 3:00-8:00 p.m.to greet family and friends. A Rosary led by St. Mary’s Altar and Rosary Society will be held at 4:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2022, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia, with Father Mark Yates, C.PP.S. officiating. Burial will follow services at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Albia. An open memorial has been established to be determined at a later date.
