Deborah "Deb" Elaine Shehan

Deborah “Deb” Elaine (Mosley) Shehan, age 76, of Albia, IA, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Oakwood Specialty Care in Albia. Deb was born on December 20, 1949, in Albia, IA, to Joseph and Lois (Wignall) Mosley. She grew up in Albia where she attended school, and graduated with the Class of 1968. Following high school, Deb attended cosmetology school in Ottumwa, Iowa. She excelled there and was asked to remain at the school as an instructor, a role that she was dedicated to for 20 years. On March 4, 1970, she married Michael “Mike” Eugene Shehan at Camp Pendleton in California. And then their son, Troy, was born. Deb and Mike shared 52 years of marriage prior to Mike’s passing on June 17, 2022. Deb grew up attending the Church of the Brethren with her mother, where several of her Wignall aunts/uncles/cousins attended. That church became a center for Wignall reunions for several years. She was a member of the Albia Eagles Club Women’s Auxiliary. She enjoyed being outdoors, and gardening. She also enjoyed reading, donating books she read to the Albia Public Library. Doing crafts such as making Christmas ornaments gave her great satisfaction as she shared them with others. Dogs were in Deb’s life for many years. Her last dog companion, Cocoa, brought her great comfort and pleasure. Deb’s true joy in life was spending time with her family and friends. She was a devoted and proud mother who never missed an opportunity to encourage and support Troy in developing his musical talents, education goals, and the building of his business. Deb is survived by her son, Troy of Iowa City, and a sister Joetta (John) Stanley of Katonah, New York. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews who adore their beloved Aunt, cousins, and good long-time friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Mike; her parents, Joseph and Lois Mosley; and her brother, Alfred Dean Mosley. A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. on Friday, the 21st day of August 2026, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia. A private family burial will be held at Cuba Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the Welcome Home Soldier monument in Albia, the Albia Public Library, and the Backpacks for Kids program (backpack4kids.org).
