Dan J Stouthammer

Dan J Stouthammer, age 70, of Lovilia, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at his home “Cabinland”, under the care of his wife, Karen, with the assistance of EveryStep Hospice. Dan was born on January 14, 1952, in Wapello County to George and Donna Marie (Sickels) Stouthammer. He grew up attending school in Ottumwa and graduated from the Ottumwa High School with the Class of 1970. On September 7, 1985, Dan was united in marriage to Karen Dicks in Albia. Dan and Karen shared 36 years of marriage prior to his passing. Following high school, Dan went to work at John Deere in Ottumwa where he held many different positions before retiring after 30 years at the age of 48. Dan then went to work as a maintenance man at Parkview Village then retired as the assistant maintenance director at the Monroe County Hospital. Dan enjoyed being outdoors, especially doing mechanic work and tinkering with his tractor. He was a self-taught jack of all trades. He was a talented carpenter, completing projects such as building decks and remodeling homes. Dan was very good with technology and building computers. He enjoyed visiting with others, had a great sense of humor, enjoyed telling stories and never knew a stranger. Taking care of his family was everything to Dan and he cherished all of the time spent with them. Dan is survived by his wife, Karen; children, Jamy (Leah) Johnson; adopted daughter, Michelle (Dave) Wynn, Dan Jay Stouthammer Jr., Scott Stouthammer, and Dawn Marie Minella; his grandchildren, Jaylin Holton, Kedan Johnson, Mackenna Stouthammer, Kimberlyn Stouthammer, and Emily Minella; and his siblings, Jerry Wayne Stouthammer, Jen Buruato, Brenda Awe, and Shelly Fletchall. Dan is also survived by a special brother-in-law, Bobby Sands and special nephews, Rick, Randy, Rusty, and Robbie. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Donna Stouthammer and a sister, Deanna. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 29, 2022, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Dan’s family present from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. to greet family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor Roger Henry officiating.
