Charles and Doris Brown

Doris Lucille (Seddon-Chance) Brown, age 80, of Albia died Thursday, October 14, 2010 at her residence in Albia. Charles L. Brown, age 80, of Albia died Monday, September 13, 2010 at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia. Doris was born on July 22, 1930, in Hamilton, Iowa to Florance (Seddon-Chance) Gray. She was raised by her mother and step father Charlie Chance. Doris was a graduate of Albia High School in 1948. She married Charles Lee Brown on April 17, 1948. Charles was born on April 30, 1930, in Burlington Junction, Missouri to Harry Charles and Wilma May (Hubbard) Brown. The couple lived in Ottumwa where three of their children were born. Around 1954, they moved to Des Moines where another son was born. Charles worked for M and H Gas Station. In February 1960, they moved to Milwaukee, WI, when Charles was transferred, where the couple's last child was born. In 1974, they moved back to Albia, to take care of their aging parents. Around 1976, they moved to the farm. Throughout the years Charles worked many different jobs, ending with being a farmer and working for Monroe County. Doris and Charles had a passion for travel. Every other year they would set off camping across the western U.S. They have been to both east and west coasts, and to the Gulf of Mexico. Doris was an avid Bingo player and dragged Charles along every chance she got. The Couple is survived by their oldest son Dewayne (Barb) Brown of Florida; their oldest daughter, Marsha (Jim)Krutina of Milwaukee, and Deloris "Dee" Brown of Albia; 12 grandchildren; with their grandson Timothy Brown of Albia regularly helped them on the farm, and 13 great-grandchildren. Charles is also survived by 1 brother, Harold Kempf of Ottumwa; and 1 sister, Imagene Mortly of Denver, CO. Doris is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles; and three brothers, Richard, Jack and Jerry Chance and one sister, Sharon Chance. Charles is preceded in death by his parents, and 2 brothers, Hubert Brown, and James Kempf. The couple lost two sons Dennis L. Brown in Vietnam in 1968, and Gary A. Brown in 1989; also a son-in-law, David L. Brown in 1989.
