Charles "Charlie" Arthur Thomas

Charles “Charlie” Arthur Thomas, age 76, of Moravia, IA, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2024, at MercyOne Medical Center in Centerville, IA. Charlie was born on April 25, 1948, to Arthur Grant and Jean (Burkett) Thomas. He grew up attending school in Moravia and later served his country in the United States Navy. On June 27, 1970, he was united in marriage to Sandy Davis. Charlie and Sandy later divorced. While in school, Charlie worked as a farmhand helping neighbors in the fields and with livestock. He worked for the Centerville Street Department before working in the construction business as a carpenter and concrete worker. Charlie was very talented and could fix anything which led to him finishing his working career as a mechanic. Charlie enjoyed listening to all types of music, with Marie Osmond being his favorite singer. In his younger years, he also enjoyed dancing. He enjoyed going to casinos to play the slot machines. He loved watching westerns and action movies and was an avid Chuck Norris and John Wayne fan. Charlie was very outgoing, loved to visit with others and never knew a stranger. Above all else, his true joy in life was spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. Charlie is survived by 2 children, Justin (April) Thomas and Amanda Thomas; his ex-wife, Sandy Thomas; 6 grandchildren, Corwin, Michael, Brenda, and Sabrina Thomas, Emily Irving, and Christoper Thomas; and 4 siblings, Joyce Smith, Shirley Morlan, Nellie Thomas, and Billy Thomas. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends. Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Jean Thomas, a son, Todd; and 2 siblings, Mary and Art. Per Charlie’s wishes, his body has been cremated. A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Charlie's family present to greet family and friends. Military honors provided by the American Legion of Albia, Lovilia, and Melrose will follow the visitation at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
